The Caerphilly Public Services Board brings public bodies together to work to improve the economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being of Caerphilly County Borough. They are responsible, under the Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act, for overseeing the development of the new Local Wellbeing Plan.

Each of the five PSBs : Blaenau Gwent, Caerphilly, Monmouth, Newport, Torfaen have agreed to disband their local Public Service Boards (PSBs) and form a regional Gwent PSB from September 2021. This was discussed in item 2 of the last Caerphilly PSB meeting on 24th June – you can read the relevant papers here

Although the Caerphilly PSB has dissolved in favour of the creation of a Gwent PSB, there are still two years left to run on the current well-being plan. We will continue to complete these actions and Performance updates will be posted on the Caerphilly PSB website which will remain in existence until the end of the current well-being plan. Local authority scrutiny of delivery will also continue until the 2018-2023 plan is completed.

Caerphilly County Borough Council will host the first meeting of the Gwent PSB and will provide the coordination role for the first 2-years when another partner of the Gwent PSB will take over. The first meeting of the Gwent PSB is on 1 Oct 2021 at 1pm via MS Teams.

We are developing a new Gwent PSB website and will provide updates on progress over the coming weeks.

You may have heard of the ‘Wellbeing of Future Generations (Wales) Act, but what is it all about? In a nutshell, it is about improving the social, economic, environmental and cultural wellbeing of the people of Wales.

5 ways of working

Public bodies need to make sure that when making their decisions they take into account the impact they could have on people living their lives in Wales in the future. There are 5 things that public bodies need to think about to show that they have applied the sustainable development principle. Following these ways of working will help us work together better, avoid repeating past mistakes and tackle some of the long-term challenges we are facing.

  1. Long term
  2. The importance of balancing short-term needs with the need to safeguard the ability to also meet long-term needs.

  3. Prevention
  4. How acting to prevent problems occurring or getting worse may help public bodies meet their objectives.

  5. Integration
  6. Considering how the public body’s wellbeing objectives may impact upon each of the wellbeing goals, on their other objectives, or on the objectives of other public bodies.

  7. Collaboration
  8. Acting in collaboration with any other person (or different parts of the body itself) that could help the body to meet its wellbeing objectives.

  9. Involvement
  10. The importance of involving people with an interest in achieving the wellbeing goals, and ensuring that those people reflect the diversity of the area which the body serves.
